Course Description: The lifeguarding course is designed for individuals interested in becoming a lifeguard in a pool setting. The American Red Cross Lifeguarding course must be attended in full to receive certification.
Hours: 31 hours 15 minutes (8:00am to 4:00pm)
Cost: $225 fee (includes textbook, certification card, pool fees, CPR pocket mask, and whistle)
Prerequisites: To be eligible for the lifeguarding course, the participant must be 15 years of age on or before the final scheduled session of this course. The participant must successfully complete the following:
1. Must be able to swim 300 yards continuously using these strokes in the following order (there is no time requirement for this skill): -100 yards front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a propellant kick. -100 yards of breaststroke. -100 yards of either breaststroke and or front crawl.
2. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
Students Responsibility: All participants should be prepared to enter the water at every class. Each student is responsible for providing their own swimsuit, towel, and proof of age; in the form of a birth certificate, driver’s license, permit, state issued ID card, or passport.
Certification: ARC Lifeguarding/First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

Students will meet at 144 Continente Ave., Suite 130, Brentwood, CA 94513 on the first day of class. The pool is located at the Delta Valley Athletic Club, 140 Guthrie Lane, Brentwood, CA 94513. Students will be responsible for transportation from PSTG’s classroom to Delta Valley Athletic Club’s pool when needed.
Registration and Payment Information:Registration and payment 30 days prior to a course start date is preferred; however registration must be completed 5 business days prior to the first day of class; this is also the course closure date. A minimum of 6 participants is needed per course. In the event that the course is postponed, students will have the option of being transferred to another lifeguarding course or obtaining a full refund. There will be no refunds issued after the course start date; except in the event that the participant does not pass the swim test. If a participant does not pass the swim test, the participant will be allowed another attempt on the first day of the next course. If the participant does not wish to have another attempt, they will receive a 50% refund of the course fee. Written notification of cancellation must be received by the course closure date which is 5 business days prior to the first day of class; course cancellation policy will apply.
